MOGA: When the Congress party high command is trying to iron out the disagreement among the party leaders in the state in view of forthcoming Lok Sabha elections, the differences among the Congress leaders in Moga emerged stronger on Saturday.
The feud between the two groups of Congress leaders here reached flash point on Friday evening and immediate casualty was the CM''s visit to the town.
The chief minister reportedly postponed his visit to the town for fourth time in the last one month.
On Saturday the scheduled visit of the chief minister to the town to inaugurate the district administration complex was cancelled at the last moment giving the much-quoted reason that CM was busy. Though the district administration was in top-gear, making preparations to receive the CM till Friday evening but once the reports of open clash between some senior party leaders in Moga reached the CM, the programme was cancelled abruptly.
In a meeting of party leaders on Thursday evening at District Congress Office here, two groups of Congress leaders reportedly exchanged filthy abuses and openly leveled wild allegations of "weakening the party" at each other. Though there are reports of some Congress leaders exchanging fisticuffs during the meeting but Tara Singh Sandhu, district party president denied the allegations and said the brawl was limited only to heated exchange.
He denied the reports that the CM''s visit was cancelled for fight among party leaders. He had to go to Delhi, said Sandhu. But interestingly on February 9 and February 11 when the CM visits were cancelled, the party leaders offered the same lame excuse.
The present imbroglio in the party started on Thursday evening when Tara Singh Sandhu had convened a meeting of the district party leaders to review the preparations for the CM''s visit. But the meeting turned in a pandemonium when a party worker accused Vijay Sathi, a senior party leader of anti-party activities.
This was strongly contested by Sathi and his supporters. They accused Tara Singh Sadhu of dictatorial attitude. And on this quried pitch, third faction of Congress leaders in Moga also raised their voice of dissidence.
Interestingly, both Tara Singh Sandh and Vijay Sathi, are known for loyalty to Jagmeet Singh Brar and the latter played instrumental role in appointment of Tara Sandhu as Moga DCC president. Brar was also instrumental in allotment of party ticket to Sathi during last assembly election.
But the differences among Sathi and Sandu started surfacing four months back when the wife of Sandhu leveled allegations of bigamy on him. Party leaders close to Sandu alleged that Sathi also played important role in spurring the allegations so that Sandhu could be removed from DCC president and he be appointed in the seat.
In this fight between the leaders, the morale of the party workers once again nosedive on Saturday as they were making arrangements for the last about one week to ferry the people from the villages of the district to put an impressive show of gathering during CM''s visit. And much annoyed is district administration which is suffering for the fight between the party leaders.
